North Face dig !! Saturday 19th May (19 May 2012)

Saturday 19th is a dig day for North Face.

This track needs a bit of tinkering to keep it running sweetly.

Starting from the top end, there are plenty of things to improve before the wetness of winter.

We will be concentrating on cutting the vegetation back where it is narrowing the track, ensuring that the drainage is up to standard and ensuring that ruts do not develop when things get slidey..

This track gets huge use, so it is a high priority job.
If you can drop in and help out a little please do: all this track work is by volunteers who love riding, walking, running...

Lunch tools and a fun time all provided - even a little time helping will be much appreciated,

Xterra Starlight Trail Run: Race 3/4 (26 May 2012)

A leg of the Xterra trail running series is being held again at Makara Peak, this time their night race. A portion of the entry fee goes back into the tracks.

There’s nothing quite like trail running in the dark!. Makara Peak has a fantastic network of trails with great under foot conditions (it’s a mountain bike park) making it an ideal location for XTERRA night running. We mark the trails up extra well and illuminate the tricky bits giving you a great night out running or walking under the stars.

Two course distances: 6km (short) and 10km (long)

Registration from 4:30pm, race starts 6pm

PLANTING DAY: Koru & Trickle Falls 17/6/2012 (17 Jun 2012)

The first planting of the 2012 season! Give back to the park on Sunday 17th June.

Simon has about 100 trees that need planting on Sunday. We'll be planting the species that are quite rare around these parts, trees like Miro, Puketea and Titoki to name a few. They will become important habitat and provide food for native fauna in the years to come so please lend a hand from 10am.

More details on where to meet to come, but we'll be starting at Koru where the majority of plants are going before heading over to the Trickle Falls valley. Spare 5 minutes and plant a tree!

Like always we'll provide you with some quality biscuits and drink, as well as all the tools and gloves you'll need.

PLANTING DAY: St Albans Ave Entrance 1/07/2012 (01 Jul 2012)

Second planting day of the season will be held at the St Albans Ave entrance to the park. Give back to the park on Sunday 1st July.

This is a popular entrance to the park for both riders and walkers. It's a bit of a weedy mess at the moment and needs some attention so we'll be planting 100 plants on Sunday. This is an easy location to bring the family to and you'll be able to see the improvements your work has achieved over the years to come.

Meet at 10am at the beginning of the 4WD track into the park, or find us just a short wander up the track anytime after. Plant a tree or 10, every hand counts and you'll be rewarded with a biscuit and drink. All tools and gloves provided.

PLANTING DAY: Location TBC 15/07/2012 (15 Jul 2012)

Third planting day of the year. Location to be confirmed but expect it around the summit area.

Andrew has 130 plants that need planting therefore we need a good turn out to get them all planted. These plants are going into the most exposed parts of the park, excluding barberry growth and providing suitable habitat for larger trees in the future.

Meeting at 10am, more details on location will be posted soon. Please convince your friends to come and spare several minutes to plant a couple of plants and we'll provide you with some biscuits and drink. All tools and gloves provided!

PLANTING DAY: Cnr Hazelwood Ave & Sth Karori Rd 29/07/2012 (29 Jul 2012)

Last Sunday planting of the year! Join Jamie at the corner of Hazelwood Ave and Sth Karori Rd (between the overflow car park and main car park) on Sunday 29th July.

We started planting here last year and this year we're going to put in another 150 plants. Although not directly in the park, the Supporters have adopted this spot as a community project and to enhance the views whilst riding along Koru. It's very easy access so bring your family along... we'll provide a snack and drink as well as all the tools and gloves.

This is the last chance to get planting this year, so if you've missed the other days and want to lend a hand, stick the date in your diary. Meet at 10am at the corner of Hazelwood Ave and Sth Karori Rd, there is no way you can miss us.
