Leaping Lizard (upper and lower)

I had a wee spin round these tracks yesterday and I'd forgotten how much fun they were. Really good top get off the more used trails and into something that feels a little more 'backcountry'.

However they are seriously overgrown in places, especially if you skip possum baitline and go straight to Karori South Road. It's virtually unrideable in places.

I know a lot of effort is going into Northface at the moment (and I will make it to a dig there sometime) but I was wondering if there are any plans for a wee cleanup of Leaping Lizard? I'd be up for helping on this, shiftwork and kids permitting.

    Hi Dan

    you make a good point.

We only have one or two problems: the first is that almost nobody wants to trim the trails, ( please read my new post for more details) and the second one is that of priorities for those that do.

Hopefully a lot of the vegetation growth in general will be trimmed back shortly (the Council will be undertaking some work) and then we can see what is left, and who would like to attack the remainder,

    cheers

I would be happy to volunteer to get out there once a month or maybe I could adopt a certain trail and just do it when it starts getting overgrown.

Give me a call or an email to let me know what needs doing.

Hi I've trimmed LL to South K Road on occasion. Happy to do haircuts as per a priority list. It would be good if someone from admin could add a pixie function to this site so that people can just turn up and do bits and pieces. Suggest that you could manage this via tracks.org.nz and a priority list for MP and surrounds. Also it might be good to run a 'trail building fundamentals workshops' - MP gets some build/maintenance and the workshop allows people to upgrade their pixie skills. Chur Jay

    Hello

    Michael, you have mail :-)

And Jay, that is a very good idea.

Clearing tracks properly at Makara Peak does require a little knowledge on what to trim, which natives like to be released and which do not etc, and how to most efficiently to trim it.

I think a Workshop is a fine idea, and shall talk to the trimming Gurus about their ideas on timing

    Cheers
