Makara Peak Rally 2008 - Report and Results

Here are the provisional results for the 2008 Makara Peak Rally, held on Sunday 7th December, at Makara Peak MTB Park in Wellington.

We had 18 teams in the morning's Creek to Peak Relay event, with the fastest combination being Gavin McCarthy and Jordan Blake in a combined time of 1 hr 13 minutes. Four teams also entered the Recreation Relay option, with Ben Stephen and Brad Duncan posting the fastest combined time up Koru and down Lazy Fern in 36 minutes.

The afternoon saw 8 duo pairs, 7 Rec riders, 27 Sport riders (including one Tandem), and 18 Open riders take on the Tour de Peak. In the Open category (every track in the Park), Josh Barley was the first man home in 2 hrs 19 mins, with Lisa Morgan taking out the women's category in 3 hrs 20 mins (and only the second female rider to ever enter the Open event in the history of the Rally). In the Duo category, Chris Strain and Jimmy Findlayson posted the fastest combined time of 2 hrs 52 mins. In the Sport category, Edwin Crossling was first to the finish in 1 hr 34 mins, with Celia Lie the first woman home in 2 hrs 8 mins. The Tandem pair of Rose Johnston and Jackson Green completed the Sport category in 2 hrs 3 mins. Dean Johansson won the Rec category in 43 minutes with Charlotte Ireland hot on his heels at 44 minutes.
